Summer 2017 Markets + Festivals

Here's where you can find me this summer, Alberta!!

The outdoor summer market kicks off May20th, after one more date inside the beautiful City Hall, May 13th.  I'll have hats for your whole family as well as other handmade-by-me goods, like the super popular chiffon kimonos.

Last week, I unfortunately had quite a bit of stock stolen out of my car.  After a few days, I got a lovely message via my Etsy shop saying that my hats had been found.  Hurrah!!! Then, radio silence from my "good samaritan" for 5 days.  Until today that is, when I was notified that my hats would only be returned if I paid a reward.

These kind folk, who are starting to sound more and more like the thieves, are holding my hats hostage!  I told them I'm not negotiating for their return.  Maybe I've watched too many crime dramas but rule #1 is that you don't negotiate with the hostage takers.  I told them they should return them because it's the right thing to do.  They came back with a not so pleasant response and said they wanted $10 a hat (there were over 100 stolen!) or they would throw them out or sell them.  Which leads me to why I'm writing this message.

As many of you know, I hand make everything I sell.  I sell in-person at farmers' markers and craft shows.  My customers value the handmade and meeting the artisans behind the products.  I know most of you are probably not looking for handmade crafts in back alleys.  However, if someone does come up to you to sell you a hat, or you happen across a Kijiji/EBay post listing Sugar Soul hats, drop me a line at  That would really be something for the police to go on.

In the meantime, I am steadfastly sewing my big heart out to make enough stock for the upcoming spring shows.  This is just a little blip in the grand scheme of things.  I'll be at Indie Handmade, Our Best to You in Red Deer and then the Spring Butterdome Show.   Hope to see you there!

Much love,

Cut, Sew, Stitch, Knit, Repeat...

!!OCTOBER !!!

As quickly as the leaves change, so does my schedule.  It is definitely a month of transition here at Sugar Soul Studio.  New markets, new shows, new fabrics, new styles!

The Tantallon Village Farmer's Market, where I sell outdoors every Tuesday from June-October, wrapped up just before Thanksgiving.  We had one of our busiest seasons ever.

My first season at Hags on the Hill, in beautiful Peggy's Cove, will finish when the shop closes up for the winter at the end of the month.  The shop occupies space in a house built in 1812, with picture postcard views from every window.  If you haven't been, try to get yourself down there before Halloween.  Hags on the Hill will reopen next June.

Now, with summer firmly in the rear view mirror, I'm spending most of my waking hours at the sewing machine and cutting table, getting ready for Christmas shows and markets.  I'll have just six more Saturdays at the Halifax Seaport Market before it is Christmas.  Can you believe that?  I'll be away for some of the Saturday markets to attend shows in Rothesay, Toronto and Edmonton (the dates for these shows are just to the right).

That was the tour! I should have a craft show t-shirt that reads like a rock band's.  The spring shows are always over before I realize.  They are a bit shorter than Christmas shows, which means more time to visit with family and friends <3 div="" nbsp="">

A huge thank you to all of my amazing new and repeat customers, who came from far and away to stock up on new Sugar Soul accessories.  Remember!!! If you missed my booth, or I didn't have the perfect hat for you, you can ORDER ONLINE.  I'll be closing my shop for a couple of weeks while we move house/studio to the other side of St.Margaret's Bay.  Once I'm up and sewing again, I think there may be some deals to be had in the online shop.  Stay tuned!

Halifax Crafters April 18 & 19 10am-5pm

Just a few more days until the Halifax Crafters' Spring Show!!

I'm always excited before shows, but this one is extra special.  Not only will it be my first time selling at the show (since I've lived in the Maritimes, it was always held on a weekend when I was in Alberta for spring shows), but my amazing friend, Sarah from Wally & Roops fame, will also be a vendor!!  We have been friends since we were newbie vendors at the outdoor City Farmers' Market in Edmonton.  Incredibly, we were both accepted to the show and she's making the trek from Saint John, NB!

I'm also keen to find AMAZING presents for my brother's birthday and for my Mom for Mothers' Day...something beautiful, original and handcrafted.  PERFECT!!

Toronto One of a Kind Show

A huge thank you to all my customers (new and repeats from past OOAK shows!) for all of your support!  I'll be back for the first 5 days of the Christmas OOAK Show.  If there is something you wished you had picked up at the show, you can always order from me online.

*Remember, almost all of my styles are also available in miniature for children.
